MARTHA STURDY INTRODUCES WALL SCULPTURE COLLECTION - JUNE 2001
Vancouver, Canada - This spring, Martha Sturdy introduces Wall Sculptures. Large and simple in design,
the new innovative art pieces are created from cold rolled steel and hang from 40 inches up to eight feet in size.
Martha's Wall Sculptures are strong and warm with organic colour and texture. By nature of the materials
and process used to create the sculptures, the pieces have an intrinsic earthy feel. Geometric shapes and
eye-catching symmetry give the collection clean, modern lines.
"The Wall Sculptures collection is a new expression of my affinity for large uncomplicated living," says Martha
Sturdy. "For these pieces, I've gone back to my roots in sculpture to create modern art."
Each piece is hand-sculpted by Martha from an inspired vision to a finished work of art. Maintaining the bold
minimalist look that defines her work, each piece has a distinct appearance. Some sculptures are patinated,
others are fused with resin and a number have applied metals.
"Moving back into sculpture supports my philosophy that as an artist I can never stand still. I don't hold
myself to a design formula; it's more about every new idea pushing the boundaries of my art," adds Sturdy.
